In loving memory, Mario Emilio Guerrero, outstanding Dominican sports journalist

It is with great sadness, yet with fond memories that we bring to you the news of the passing of Dominican sports journalist Mario Emilio Guerrero, a beloved friend of the Casa de Campo community.

Mario Emilio Guerrero Krantz was passionate about tennis and was president of the Dominican Tennis Federation in Santo Domingo and was often seen in Casa de Campo during tennis tournaments throughout the years. Guerrero was also linked to the Dominican winter baseball season as press officer of the baseball teams Leones del Escondido, Estrellas Orientales, and our very own Toros del Este.

He also worked for the Dominican Basketball Federation and the National District Basketball Association. For many years he published the column “Con los Campeones” in Listín Diario. He was also a sports editor for El Caribe and a producer for “Protagonistas” a program that is broadcast on CDN, channel 37. In addition, he worked as a public relations officer for the Ministry of Sports.

Throughout his fruitful career, he managed to interview historical figures of world sports such as Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and Roger Federer.

The death was confirmed by the professional baseball team Los Toros del Este through Twitter, where Guerrero stood out as Press Director from 2014 to 2017.

The message read, “Rest in Peace Mario Emilio Guerrero. Our condolences to his family at this terrible time.” 

We extend our condolences to his family at this time of grief, Guerrero will be fondly remembered within the Casa de Campo community for his generosity and kind spirit and his continued support in all the tennis events. May he rest in peace.
