carnival partyLast Saturday the 2nd of March 2013, the “CARNAVALEA: Fantasy Party”, was celebrated at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club in the Marina Casa de Campo, marking the end of a month filled with colors, masks and wonderful costumes as part of the traditional Carnaval Dominicano held throughout February at the Marina Casa de Campo. carnival partyIt had been only three days after I came back from my well deserved vacations and started working again as part of the super Silgon team (creators of your online newspaper, Casa de Campo Living) – which was why, for the first time in years, I did not get to enjoy one of the most popular Dominican traditions; the Carnaval Dominicano. However covering “CARNAVALEA Fiesta de Fantasia” certainly seemed like a fabulous opportunity to catch up on the celebration… So, as a Carnival “fiebrúa” (enthusiast) and having my own batteries fully recharged, I arrived at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club early (yes, I told you I am Carnival “fiebrúa”) – when the doors were officially opened to let the party begin… carnival party carnival party Everything was ready for what was planned to be a fun-filled Carnival evening. Creativity, and the numerous colourful carnival elements were numerous. Striking devilish masks hung from the walls, accompanied by a series of comic and popular Dominican Carnival characters adorning every corner (and ceiling) – at the dance floor, the bar and terrace. Just like with the Grand Carnaval Parade the previous weekend – it was clear no expense had been spared to make this party unforgettable. Later, the first guests made their way into the party, and marvelled at the colourful lighting and the carnival atmosphere. Among them I enjoyed watching some friendly “guloyas”, mysterious masked guests, Gypsies and very unique “Limping Devils” (Diablos Cojuelos), who not only enjoyed great conversations and the good company of other friends who were also arriving, but also drinks and a variety of dance music, as well as the occasional classic “Merenguitos”. However, this was only the “Warm Up” – a little later, another group of enmascarados made their way into the Casa de Campo Yacht Club. carnival party Congratulations to the Marina Casa de Campo for organizing numerous Carnival events and for converting the Casa de Campo Yacht Club into an attractive place to gather and enjoy evening activities!
