Casa de Campo offers a lot of places for an evening drink, but there are those nights where you just want to stay in the comfort of your own home.
Since I moved to Dominican Republic, in Casa de Campo I’ve been on a search for the perfect house cocktail. Previously, it had been a stiff dry martini in an oversized chilled cocktail glass. However, since we are in rum land, which comes in a lot varieties and great quality here, what a better way to celebrate than rum based cocktails?
“El Presidente”
My personal favorite from the bunch! Think of it like a Caribbean dry martini.
This recipe is adapted from The Savoy Cocktail Book by Harry Craddock, published in 1930. The drink is also known as El Presidente.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz of White Rum (I recommend Brugal Titanium)
0.75 oz of Orange Curaçao
0.75 of Dry Vermouth
1 dash of Grenadine (optional, for the sweetness)
How to make:
Add al the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice.
Shake, and strain into chilled cocktail glass.
“Oh Gosh”
You will definitely say “Oh my Gosh!” after trying this extra citrusy version of a Daiquiri! So refreshing!
Ingredients:
0.75 oz of aged aged rum (I recommend Brugal Gran Reserva XV)
0.75 oz of Triple Sec
0.75 oz of fresh lime juice
2 tbsp. of simple syrup
How to make:
Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake hard and double-strain into a large, chilled coupette.
Garnish with a lemon twist.
“Neptune”
A perfect chilling-by-the-pool drink. Light, refreshing and divine.
Ingredients:
2 oz of Bacardi
8 oz of Triple Sec
¾ oz of passionfruit puree
¾ oz of lime juice
1 ¼ oz of honey syrup
10 mint leaves
How to make:
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass. Top with crushed ice.
There you have it. 3 ways to make the ultimate at-home cocktail. In Casa, every day can feel like a weekend. So make sure to sit back, relax, and enjoy the quality of the Caribbean in your glass. Cheers!
