On Thursday afternoon, August 28th, Casa de Campo excitedly celebrated the opening of the 37th Casa de Campo Tennis Tournament, the “Copa Casa de Campo” with an inauguration ceremony at the La Terraza Tennis Club.
Although the tournament had been officially inaugurated earlier that day with a strong serve from Peter Bonell, chief marketing officer for Casa de Campo, an inauguration ceremony also took place in the afternoon, as is the tradition.
In attendance at the ceremony were the many tournament competitors, visiting Casa de Campo from around the world, as well as Ramon and Luchy Méndez. The tournament was this year played in honor of Ramon and Luchy, for being the couple who motivated Juan Ríos (at the time the Director of Tennis) and Vincenzo Mastrolilli, to found this annual tennis tradition in 1979, which was originally named the ‘Torneo Siboney.’
Following this inauguration ceremony the 37th Casa de Campo Tennis Tournament was played at the La Terraza Tennis Club through until this Sunday August 31st, when the prize-giving ceremony took place – click here for our photos of the finals and the prize-giving!
