Great news! The Dominican Ministry of Public Works and ODEBRECHT have announced that today they will be inaugurating the La Romana Bypass. The inauguration ceremony will take place at 10am with the participation of the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, Dominican Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo Terrero, as well as the executives of ODEBRECHT, who were responsible for the construction of the new road.
The new La Romana Bypass is 14 kilometers long, has four lanes and is 22 meters wide, and best of all will eliminate traffic through the center of La Romana. All traffic travelling between Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Bayahibe and also Casa de Campo will now be directed around the town – saving time and fuel, both for individuals and for companies carrying passengers and goods.
The La Romana Bypass will join to the new “Autopista del Coral” between La Romana and Punta Cana (opened in August 2012), as well as the highway directly to Santo Domingo. This means that travellers heading to Santo Domingo from Casa de Campo will turn right out of the Casa de Campo resort main entrance and will join the bypass within 5 minutes – something which will drastically reduce travel time to Santo Domingo. Hopes are that travel time to Santo Domingo from Casa de Campo will be reduced to just 1 hour, or hopefully less.
The complete road links all the principal tourists destinations in the entire Eastern region of the Dominican Republic. Which with the opening of the “Tourist Boulevard of the East” last week also includes the northern coast between the Punta Cana – Bavaro area and Miches.
“It is a great pleasure to deliver this work on time, as the road will now be fully operational for the 2013 holiday season, something which will be of great benefit to all foreign visitors, carriers and individuals who will be using La Romana Bypass” said Minister Gonzalo Castillo.
Casa de Campo’s “second main gate”
Now that the La Romana Bypass is open we can expect some more good news soon… Costasur indicated that once the Bypass is open, work will begin on Casa de Campo’s “second main gate”. This second main gate will lead directly onto the Autopista del Coral highway. Click here to read more.
