Yesterday, May 24th 2012 the 17th annual “Caribbean Golf Classic” golf tournament got underway in Casa de Campo with golfers teeing off on the Dye Fore and the Links.

The 17th annual Caribbean Golf Classic, an event organized by FEDOGOLF  (the Dominican golf organization) and conducted by the Caribbean Golf association is being played on Casa de Campo’s 3 most famous Pete Dye designed golf courses; Teeth of the Dog, Links and Dye Fore from Thursday May 24th through to Saturday May 26th.

The Caribbean Golf Classic tournament is an international event played individually and in teams, integrating an unlimited number of players from each country. Men will be competing for the Robert Grell trophy, whilst the ladies will be competing for the Dessie Henry trophy. However a third category named “Ladies” will be played to win the Jodi Munn Barrow trophy.

The Dominican ladies team representing the country in this event consists of Karina de Batista, Francia Álvarez de Batista, Urania Ovalle and Rosa López, whilst Carlos López Cornielle, Cary Chow, Héctor Acosta, Juan Marcos Yunén, Gianfranco Regazzoni and Renaldo Lama will be those competing for the Dominican Republic in the men’s division.

GO MERY!
This year competing in the “Ladies” division is Casa de Campo resident and student of Eric Lillibridge of the Jim McLean Golf School in Casa de Campo, Mery Ledesma – who is leading the women’s division by 2 shots after the first round!!

Whilst in Casa de Campo the competitors of the tournament will be staying in Casa de Campo’s “golf lodge” rooms as well as the newly renovated “Elite” rooms and as they are only playing 18 hole per day will have plenty of time for enjoying the Casa de Campo resort’s fabulous facilities and restaurants such as Minitas Beach, the Shooting Centre and the Beach Club by Le Cirque! We hope they have a fantastic time!

To end the tournament the competitors and their guests will enjoy a closing party and prize-giving ceremony in Altos de Chavón on Saturday evening May 26th.
