The 38th Sugar Shooting Tournament is underway at Casa de Campo, bringing together longtime participants and fresh faces for one of the year’s most anticipated events. The tournament officially launched April 24, with a pre-shoot cocktail party and dinner hosted by Emilia and J. Pepe Fanjul at La Casita Restaurant — an evening that set the tone for the days ahead.

A Time-Honored Tradition

While the tournament itself began earlier in the week with practice rounds at both the Casa de Campo shooting center and Rancho Peligro, Thursday evening’s gathering holds a special place in the event’s history. This tradition allows shooters, sponsors, and friends to catch up, enjoy great food, and set the tone for the days ahead.

What’s Happening at the Shooting Grounds

With the official start of the tournament, participants will dive into events such as the five-stand re-entry clays, two-man flush and pool shoots, which provide a mix of challenges and fun for all skill levels. It’s an opportunity for shooters to hone their skills while enjoying the dynamic atmosphere.

One of the most exciting elements of the tournament is the game shooting at Rancho Peligro, held from Tuesday to Thursday. Shooters get a chance to experience something truly unique with a helicopter ride to the foothills northeast of La Romana, where they’ll enjoy a round of partridge and pheasant shooting amidst breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

On Friday, participants will continue to test their precision in a series of shooting events, including sporting clays and the handicap events, where competition is sure to be fierce.

A Weekend of Competitive Fun

On Friday afternoon, the Colombaire event kicks off and wraps up on Saturday. This exciting event has teams competing in the 20 Bird Race, creating a spirited yet friendly rivalry among participants.

The awards ceremony on Saturday evening, held after a cocktail hour and dinner, will celebrate the hard work and sportsmanship of all competitors, acknowledging their achievements and the camaraderie that defines the tournament.
