Are you ready for the 30-400-3 formula? The 30th annual Casa de Campo Sugar golf tournament hosted by “Alfy” Alfonso Fanjul opens next week from the 25th to the 28th of March, with more than 400 international golfers expected to take part in this prestigious 3-day golf event.
The annual tournament, headed by Alfy Fanjul, President and CEO of the Central Romana Corporation in La Romana will be played on the Teeth of the Dog, the Links, Dye Fore and the La Romana Country Club golf courses, while evenings will be enjoyed at a number of private functions around the Casa de Campo resort.
This fine Casa de Campo tradition will open on Wednesday evening with a welcome cocktail hosted by the Casa de Campo Sugar tournament and Benetti yachts, in a beautiful ocean side location at the Marina Casa de Campo. Other evening celebrations include a dinner at Casa Grande hosted by Alfy and Raysa Fanjul, an Argentine BBQ hosted by Rolando and Monica Gonzalez-Bunster, as well as the prize giving and dinner-dance to be celebrated at the La Romana Country Club on Saturday evening.
From Thursday to Saturday, tournament rounds will be played across the Casa de Campo resort, with ladies teeing off around the Dye Fore (Lakes/Marina), as well as the Links, while the gentlemen golfers will play on the Teeth of the Dog and the La Romana Country Club. There will also be a ladies tennis tournament at the La Romana Country Club on Saturday morning.
While all Sugar golf tournament events are for golfers and their partners, one event open to the Casa de Campo community and visitors is the MIR Bazaar. The MIR Bazaar is a fabulous opportunity to shop and raise money for a great cause and will be open at the La Romana Country Club from Thursday March 26th through Sunday March 29th. Celebrating the end of the 29th annual Casa de Campo Sugar Golf Tournament

About the Sugar Golf Tournament…
The Sugar Golf Tournament is the Fundación MIR’s original fundraising event, from which Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Founder and President of the charity got the seed money to open the “Casa de Paz”, which has now become the internationally recognized foundation, today called the “Fundación MIR.”
Originally just a “normal” golf tournament, “The Sugar” was founded in 1984 by Alfy Fanjul and Don Creamer who sadly passed away last year. But when Alfy (Lian’s brother) won in 1990 he donated his winnings to Lian, thus transforming the Sugar golf tournament into a charity event for the Fundación MIR, and as such one of the most glamorous, exclusive and important events in the Casa de Campo social calendar.
Today, “The Sugar” now incorporates a golf component headed by Alfy, as well as a shooting component headed by one of Lian’s other brother’s J.Pepe Fanjul, shot at the Casa de Campo Shooting Center and “Rancho Peligro”.
