Casa de Campo is once again at the heart of high-stakes polo action as it hosts the 10th edition of the British Cup, running from February 15 to March 1. With teams competing in the 8-12 goal range, the tournament promises thrilling matches, elite athleticism, and a touch of flair — both on and off the field. Last year, La Carmela took home the cup. Who will do it this year?

A Tournament with Prestige

This year’s British Cup features six formidable teams vying for the title:

  • Casa de Campo – Leo Matos, Pablo Avalos, Dennys Santana, Alex Schad
  • Power I-MCD – Miguel Mendoza, Ramón A. Brenes, Marcelo Amadeo, Ale Muzzio
  • La Romanza – 3J – O.F., José Calazan, Julio Lopez, Tomi Alberdi
  • Club Car-La Espada – Juan Tomás Díaz, Luis A. Paniagua, Juan F. Crespo, Agustin Lorea
  • La Carmela – Mauricio Bogaert, Rafael García, Roberto García, Ezequiel M. Ferrario
  • La Carbuccia – José Cedano, TBA, Julián Díaz, Luis A. Carbuccia

Matches will take place at Casa de Campo Polo Club starting February 15, with the semifinals set for February 27 and the championship match on March 1 at 4 p.m. Renowned referee Federico Martelli, one of the sport’s most respected officials, will oversee the competition.

Honoring Carlos Morales Troncoso

This year’s tournament is dedicated to the late Carlos Morales Troncoso, a Dominican statesman and business leader who left a lasting impact on the nation’s sugar industry and diplomatic relations. A Louisiana State University graduate in chemical and sugar engineering, he played a pivotal role at Central Romana Corporation before serving multiple terms as the Dominican Republic’s foreign minister. His contributions extended beyond business and politics, shaping the nation’s economic and international standing.

More Than Just Polo

The British Cup isn’t just about competition — it’s also about giving back. Proceeds will support Hogar del Niño and Save the Children, organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children in need. Spectators can enjoy world-class polo while contributing to a meaningful cause.

What’s Next? The Women’s Polo Cup

Following the British Cup, Casa de Campo will host the Women’s Polo Cup on March 22. Organized by Carolina Rainer de Matos, this third edition will welcome international players while supporting Madres Maravillas, a program empowering single mothers in La Romana.

Whether you’re a die-hard polo fan or just looking for an exciting day out, Casa de Campo’s polo season delivers fast-paced action, fierce rivalries and a commitment to community. Don’t miss out on the excitement!
