The 41st Annual Sugar Golf Tournament teed off in style on Wednesday, April 2, with a sunset cocktail at Minitas Beach. The event marked the beginning of a week filled with golf, camaraderie and elegant gatherings across Casa de Campo.
Honoring Tradition

Though Mr. Alfy Fanjul was unable to attend this year due to a back injury, his sons-in-law Luis Fernandez and Tad Ryan stepped in to host on his behalf. They were joined by Federico Caslini of IBI Yachts, co-hosting alongside Azimut Yachts.
“We’re excited about this year’s tournament and grateful to everyone for being here,” said Fernandez. “This party wouldn’t be possible without the support of Azimut Yacht, Mauro, Alice and Federico Caslini. They continue to be incredible partners.”
Caslini also welcomed guests with a smile. “Thank you again to the Fanjul family and to everyone here. Please have fun, enjoy and have a great tournament.”

A Relaxed Start

With the sun setting over the Caribbean, guests mingled over light bites, drinks and friendly conversation. The laid-back setting at Minitas Beach Club offered a picture-perfect scene to kick off the week—complete with sea breezes and laughter.
Earlier that day, players checked in at La Romana Country Club and warmed up with practice rounds on the Marina-New, La Romana Country Club, Links and Dye Fore courses. Tournament play begins Friday and continues through Saturday, April 5.
Daily activities include the MIR Sugar Bazaar, lunches at the driving range and clubhouses, private dinners, Saturday’s much-anticipated ladies’ luncheon and fashion show, closing with a prize-giving ceremony and dinner party at the La Romana Country Club on Saturday evening.
Fore the Love of Golf and Good Company
The Sugar Golf Tournament is more than a game — it’s a tradition rooted in friendship, fun and community spirit. As Fernandez reminded attendees, “It’s a great time. Great fellowship. Play fast. No slow playing, please.”
With warm welcomes, good company and a week of competitive golf ahead, the Sugar Tournament is off to a strong — and stylish — start.
