On Friday, February 16, WAO Gallery & Cultural Center will debut the “Nostalgia of My Yesterday” exhibition by artist Félix Hernández.

A CHAVÓN School of Design graduate, Hernández offers a contemporary outlook on art that resonates with freshness and modernity. This exhibition aims to bridge the gap between the audience and the artist’s childhood reminiscences, weaving a narrative that celebrates the essence of youth and nostalgia through surrealism and hyper-realism.

“I perceive dreams through a lens of playfulness, where humanity achieves its peak happiness, liberated from prejudices and fears,” shares Félix. “Traditional elements of our culture and folklore surface recurrently, from Samurai sandals to tires and palm leaves, each triggering memories that resurface through our senses, evoking the beauty and nostalgia of our past. Water, as a recurring semiotic symbol, embodies the paradisiacal essence of heaven on earth, resonating with its sound and mirage, delving into the depths of our being.”

The exhibition, featuring 32 pieces, runs from February 16 to March 18, 2024. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Sundays/Tuesdays, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, closed Mondays.
