This year the Sugar Golf Tournament hosted by Alfy Fanjul will be played on the 5th and 6th of April – and will as has been the tradition for many years – be accompanied by the “MIR Bazaar”, a fabulous opportunity to shop and raise money for a great cause – the Fundación MIR.
The MIR Bazaar will this year be open from the 4th to the 7th of April at the La Romana Country Club – offering Casa de Campo shoppers a superb range of products – such as jewlry, arts and crafts, home decor items, clothing, and much more!
So lady shoppers of Casa de Campo – pencil the date into your diary! And if you or someone you know may be interested in taking part with a table in the event please contact the Fundación MIR now to reserve your space (contacts below).
Although not yet announced, every year the favorite day to visit the MIR bazaar is Saturday (this year Saturday the 6th of April) – when Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, President and Founder of the Fundación MIR hosts a very popular ladies luncheon – a fabulous time to shop, gossip and have a good time – and all in the name of education and offering a bright future for the children of the La Romana area! [Funds raised during this event are destined to the Fundación MIR, who now has 3 schools, with a total of more than 1500 children!]
The MIR Bazaar in aid of the Fundación MIR was open in the La Romana Country Club from Thursday March 28th through to Sunday April the 1st and offered Casa de Campo ladies and visitors a fantastic opportunity to indulge in a little retail therapy – and support a great cause. In celebration of the Bazaar, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta hosted a by-invitation only “ladies luncheon” on Saturday March the 31st, which featuring a fantastic fashion show by Azzurro and was a great success.
The Sugar Golf Tournament is the Fundación MIR’s original fundraising event, from which Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Founder and President of the charity got the seed money to open the “Casa de Paz”, which has now become the internationally recognized foundation, today called the “Fundación MIR.”
Originally just a “normal” golf tournament, “The Sugar” was founded in 1984 by Alfy Fanjul and Don Creamer (pictured left), but when Alfy (Lian’s brother) won in 1990 he donated his winnings to Lian, thus transforming the Sugar golf tournament into a charity event for the Fundación MIR, and as such one of the most glamorous, exclusive and important events in the Casa de Campo social calendar.
Today, “The Sugar” now incorporates a golf component headed by Alfy, as well as a shooting componant headed by one of Lian’s other brother’s Pepe, played in Casa de Campo at the the Casa de Campo Shooting Center and “Rancho Peligro” (click here for photos and to read more.)
