The Altos de Chavón Amphitheater, a 5,000 seater open-air musical and theatrical venue is this year celebrating it’s 30th anniversary! And so to mark this milestone, we are introducing a new series of articles “Remembering the Lyrical Legends of Altos de Chavón.” Here, in the first of this new series of posts, we share with you photos and videos of Frank Sinatra during the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater’s very first concert in 1982.
The ‘Concert for the Americas’ took place on Saturday August the 20th 1982 in Altos de Chavón’s 5,000-seater open-air amphitheater with performers Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, Heart and Santana – with concert-goers paying only RD$50 per ticket (the equivalent of US$2)!!
The concert was opened by Frank Sinatra with Buddy Rich, who together performed a set of no less than 19 songs, including Sinatra classics such as; “Strangers in The Night”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, “I Get a Kick Out of You” and ended with the “Theme From New York, New York.”

About the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater
An iconic image of Altos de Chavón and Casa de Campo, the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater was designed by Italian artist Roberto Copa in 1976.
In it’s 29 year history, Altos de Chavón has received many international artists in more than 163 concerts, such as Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, Sergio Mendes, Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, Luis Miguel, Michel Camilo, Spiro Gyra, Duran Duran. It has also been the scenery for the best performers of Dominican Music like Juan Luis Guerra, Fernando Villalona, Wilfrido Vargas and many more.
