Central Romana’s new health facility the “Centro Médico” was officially inaugurated yesterday, Monday the 21st of November, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, led by President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernandez and Central Romana executives, Alfonso Fanjul, Eduardo Martinez-Lima, Pepe Fanjul and Ramón A. Menendez, as well as Dr José Lopez, the Health Vice President of Central Romana and Director of the Centro Médico, with a blessing by Reverend Father Victor Garcia, pastor of the St. Stanislaus church in Altos de Chavón.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Alfy Fanjul, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Central Romana Corporation, said “Since the beginning of the last century our company has offered services and health care to all employees. And today, as we celebrate nearly a century in business, Central Romana maintains these same principles, and surpasses them with the opening here of this modern Medical Center built at a cost of more than 1200 million pesos. ” He also added that a “no expense spared” approach was applied to ensure the facility was equipped with the most advanced medical technology and trained personnel to offer patients an outstanding level of care.
Alfy Fanjul, the CEO of Central Romana later stressed that “civic conscience of a company to its community and the state is a business necessity for the economic progress of our democratic system.” Alfy Fanjul also too the time to acknowledge and thank the directors of the Baptist Hospital of Miami, the largest health center in Florida, for their continued support of the project, with a special mention of the late Dr. Francisco-Frank-Gonzalvo “who had the original idea and worked hard to make his dream become a happy reality.”

About the new “Centro Médico”
Central Romana’s new hospital, the “Centro Médico”, boasts three levels with lifts, a helipad for medical emergencies, 84 beds in comfortable private and semi-private rooms, four surgical suites with the latest medical equipment and technology, with one operating room equipped with the “Olympus Endo Alpha Smart” a system used for keyhole (laparoscopic) general surgery, two intensive care and coronary units, allowing patients to be under continuous monitoring and even a specialized burn unit with specialist bathing equipment, as well as a Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, a full clinical laboratory, a fully remodeled ER (emergency area), a 24 hour pharmacy and Café.

The new Central Romana Medical Center has a thousand kilowatt electrical generator, a steam boiler, hot water and a water treatment system and additional facilities include a modern system of security cameras in all common areas, a sprinkler system in case of fire, fire-resistant doors and stairs for emergency access routes on each floor.

The “Centro Médico”, was designed by Cottin Malcolm Architects, from the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, and Silvia Sanchez staff of the Engineering Department of the Central Romana Corporation, Ltd., who was responsible for the construction work.
In August 2010, the Patronato Benéfico Oriental inaugurated the “Diagnóstica Social”, a medical imaging and diagnostics center, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which has an MRI, as well as excellent tomography, sonography, mammography and X-ray facilities, making it one of the largest and most advanced medical care facility of it’s kind in the East of the Dominican Republic and the entire country.
Central Romana’s new “Centro Médico” is located next door to the “Diagnóstica Social” and the 2 facilities will work hand in hand to ensure the very best patient care.
