La Romana-Bayahibe, one of the Dominican Republic’s most prominent tourist destinations, continues to solidify its position as a model for sustainability and social development. One of the most notable advances in the area has been the protection of the southeastern reefs, which have been declared a marine sanctuary. This measure aims to preserve biodiversity and marine ecosystems that attract thousands of tourists each year. Additionally, the region has earned Blue Flag certification for its beaches, recognizing environmental quality and good practices in coastal management.

On the social front, AHRB has made significant investments in education and community development. These initiatives align with the mission of promoting inclusive growth that benefits both visitors and local residents. Fernández also highlighted efforts to protect aquifers, a vital resource for the region, and initiatives to combat the sexual exploitation of children, underscoring the industry’s commitment to social responsibility.

Looking ahead, Fernández proposed the creation of a Destination Strategy for 2025, a strategic plan that will be led by the region’s tourism cluster. According to the AHRB president, collaboration will be key to continuing to drive tourism and economic development while maintaining a focus on sustainability and community well-being.

A significant milestone for the region is the new daily American Airlines flight between Miami and La Romana, starting on December 5. This new route not only reflects the destination’s growth but also the increasing confidence from airlines in La Romana-Bayahibe’s potential. Fernández noted that this direct connection will attract more international tourists and open new opportunities for economic development in the region.

“2024 has been a year full of achievements and lessons, but we are just getting started. With the support and collaboration of all the involved sectors, we will continue building a competitive, sustainable, and prosperous destination for all. We look forward to 2025 with optimism, knowing that new projects will bring great opportunities for our community and sector,” said Fernández.

With an eye on the future, the Association of Hotels Romana-Bayahibe continues to work towards maintaining La Romana-Bayahibe as a premier tourist destination that not only grows but does so with purpose, social responsibility, and a strong commitment to the environment.

Fernández thanked all collaborators, business leaders, authorities, and residents who are part of this journey, wishing them happy holidays and hoping for a 2025 filled with new achievements and successes. AHRB, together with the Tourism Cluster, invites everyone to continue exploring and enjoying this wonderful destination, which continues to shine as an example of responsible and sustainable tourism development.
