Central Romana Corporation, Ltd. announced the appointment of José Fanjul Jr. as its new president. This decision was made by the company’s board of directors, while Alfonso Fanjul and José “Pepe” Fanjul will continue to serve as co-chairmen and co-CEOs.

The company emphasized that these appointments are part of a strategic effort to ensure the continuity and growth of its operations. In addition to his new role, Fanjul Jr. will remain vice chairman of the board of directors.

Fanjul Jr. will lead alongside Executive Vice Presidents Eduardo Martínez-Lima Gonzalvo and Dr. Leonardo Matos García, as well as Ramón Menéndez, another key figure in the company’s leadership team. According to Central Romana’s official statement, “These designations help renew and strengthen the corporate structure, ensuring future investments and continued contributions to the community.”

This leadership transition comes as Central Romana celebrates 40 years since Alfonso and José Fanjul, along with their partners, became majority shareholders. Under their leadership, the corporation has diversified its operations, spanning sugar production, tourism, free trade zones, and real estate development, all contributing to the Dominican Republic’s economy.

The company also operates an international airport, cruise port, medical health center, and the first national meat processing plant certified under the international FSC 22000 standard for quality and safety.

Fanjul Jr. carries on a strong family legacy at Central Romana. In a December 2023 interview with Casa de Campo Living, he emphasized the importance of long-term vision and continuity within the company. “We have built for the long term, which is one of the great advantages of a multigenerational family business,” Fanjul Jr. said. He also underscored the company’s evolution into a world-class organization while remaining committed to supporting the local community.

Looking ahead, Fanjul Jr. expressed enthusiasm for Central Romana’s plans to expand its philanthropic efforts, tourism, and real estate assets. He highlighted upcoming developments, including new projects at Casa de Campo, where he has played a significant role in its growth. “Our vision for the future is to build on the foundation and tradition that exists here, while preserving its beauty and sense of community,” he said.
