Last Saturday, August 22nd, the Altos de Chavón Cultural Center Foundation opened the doors of its main gallery to show the new exhibition by renowned fashion designer Jenny Polanco, “El Diseño como una expresión de Identidad” (design as an expression of identity).
The exhibition reviews the creative career of Jenny Polanco and demonstrates the multiplicity of her artistic work. It’s a production that oscillates between art and design with absolute naturalness, with a strong focus on the local, principally Dominican cultural heritage. The exhibition was curated by Sara Herman, with photographs by Tiziano De Stefano and impressions of Félix Sepulveda.
The exhibition will remain open until September 21, 2015.
Last March, Jenny Polanco was invited to present a segment of her exhibition at the Headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2015.
“Jenny Polanco can be considered a pioneer in the Dominican Republic. Her creations are rooted in the Dominican cultural heritage and they feed directly from traditional handicrafts, gastronomy, climate, ethnicity, flora and fauna, the rhythms and flavors of the Dominican Republic”, said Ambassador Laura Faxas referring to the exhibition.
Jenny Polanco is a fashion designer with over 35 years of professional experience in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Bahamas and New York. Her designs of pret a porter women’s clothing, are characterized by a classic vanguard style and sophisticated lines, merged with handcrafted details of the Dominican vernacular: amber buttons, horn details, larimar, mother pearl, coral, among others. Jenny Polanco is also advisor on craft production and sustainable cultural development, and management of the Eastern Region of the country, appointed by the Minister of Culture.
