Every year in January, Fundación MIR hosts two very popular events to kick off the year’s events. On Saturday January 19th, the Casa de Campo community and many visitors were able to enjoy a day of golf, a spectacular fashion show by none other than Naeem Khan, and a dinner and dance gala all to benefit the children of La Romana. Each year, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, her daughter Lyanne Azqueta and the whole Fundación MIR team do an incredible job putting together this tournament and raising money for education for hundreds of children in La Romana.

The Golf Tournament took place in La Romana Country Club. Upon arrival, the players were greeted by the staff of the Fundación MIR where they were handed a goody bag and this year’s event polo shirt. Then, they all had the opportunity to practice their swings and putts before starting the tournament and just before the tournament started, Mrs. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, founder and president of the Fundación MIR welcomed everyone one again and thanked them for their continued support.

The Fundación MIR Golf Tournament is played “Scramble” style, with teams working together to obtain the lowest score on each hole together. Each teammate hits a drive and then the best of the four balls is then played. The teamwork style of scramble tournaments keeps the game fun and more community focused that individual score driven. It is the perfect style of tournament for fundraisers, keeping the energy all about teamwork and the community!
The tournament may be more about putting the FUN in fundraising, but competition was still in the air! Below are the results of the Fundación MIR’s 28th Annual Magical Splendor Golf Tournament!
