Last Sunday the 4th of November following a successful golf tournament battled out on the Teeth of the Dog and La Romana Country Club courses in Casa de Campo, former President Dr. Leonel Fernandez presented the prize-winners trophies at a celebration held at the La Romana Country Club for the event’s more than 200 players and their guests.
The tournament, in which Jonathan Almánzar and Diego Schiffino were crowned champions with the best net and gross scores respectively, was played over the weekend of Friday the 2nd of November to Sunday the 4th 2012, to raise funds for FUNGLODE foundation (the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development) whose purpose is to strengthen democracy and human development in the Dominican Republic.

In addition to the golf tournament, players and their partners also enjoyed 2 cocktail parties; on Friday evening at the La Romana Country Club, on Saturday evening in Altos de Chavón, as well as the grand finale – the prize-giving dinner and dance at the La Romana Country Club with live music presented by Los Hermanos Rosarios.
Among those in attendance were Eddy Martinez, president of the FUNGLODE Organizing Committee; Rosalba Morera, executive director, Carlos Arias, technical director, and other members of FUNGLODE Cup organizing team, including: Tito Lopez and Domingo Tavarez, as well as Nicholas Vargas, National Golf Commissioner – as well as of course, former president of the Dominican Republic and president of FUNGLODE Dr. Leonel Fernandez and his wife Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, vicepresident of the Dominican Republic.
Amongst the many sponsors of this prestigious annual event was Chivas Regal whiskey.
