fundacion MIR

Dino LaCapra, an avid supporter of the Fundación MIR is on November the 19th running in the Philadelphia Marathon – with the aim of bringing smiles to the faces of the children at the Fundación MIR schools by collecting donations of books and musical instruments!

The Fundación MIR, with 3 schools in La Romana town believes education is the key to ensuring a successful future of the Dominican Republic and it’s people – and Dino, now running in his 3rd marathon in support of the Fundación MIR is certainly in agreement!

Here we bring you a mini-interview with Dino:

@cdcliving: Why did you choose to support the Fundación MIR?

Dino LaCapra: I chose the Fundación MIR because of my personal relationship with the people of the Dominican Republic and the organization. I have always been received with open arms into the lives and homes of my friends in the Dominican Republic, so it made sense for me to find a way to give back to such a beautiful country and culture. Being able to help the children of the Fundación MIR schools is such a blessing. I am a true believer that education is the pathway to economic freedom and is the only thing that cannot be taken from us.

@cdcliving: In total how much money have you already raised for the Fundación MIR?

Dino LaCapra: I do not feel it is about how much money we have raised, but how many smiles we have been able to help make. Those total in the thousands! 🙂

@cdcliving: What challenges does the Philidelphia marathon present in comparison to other marathons?

Dino LaCapra: I find that the marathon training is more challenging than the actual race. Race day is the celebration of months of training, dedication and sacrifice. Philadelphia presents the same problems as all marathons- 42km of road to run!

@cdcliving: How exactly can people donate the books/instruments?

Dino LaCapra:

1. Visit the MIR Amazon Wish List and purchase books and/or instruments for the children, here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/wishlist/J84HULLYGLUL/ref=sr_1_1_acs_wl_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351883847&sr=8-1-acs

2. Any gently used books or instruments can be sent to the Fundación MIR offices in Florida or La Romana in the Dominican Republic.
