Thirty-seven years after his first concert in Altos de Chavón, the revered artist “El Niño Mimado,” Fernando Villalona, returned to the amphitheater on Saturday, August 12. This time, his performance, impeccably produced by Big Show Pro and Casa de Campo, commemorated the 40th anniversary of the iconic Altos de Chavón stage.
Amidst a massive crowd under clear skies, the amphitheater reached total capacity to welcome the legendary “El Mayimbe.”

Villalona’s gratitude resonated as he addressed the crowd, “I was eager to do this again, and thank you, Lord, for placing these people in the stones of Altos de Chavón, some of whom were here 37 years ago. Thank you, Father, this is the greatest blessing you’ve given me tonight.”
The performance was historic. The vibrant atmosphere and fan excitement set the tone for the celebration from the opening chords of Seré.
Villalona captivated the audience with his stage presence and distinctive voice. The setlist included 36 of his greatest hits in merengue, ballads and boleros, such as Mi pueblo, Y te amo solo, Quijote, Penélope and Payaso.
Backed by dancers and an orchestra with backup vocalists and musicians, all under the direction of Maestro Manuel Tejada, Villalona poured his heart into every note.

The evening featured notable collaborations. Venezuelan artist Omar Henriquez joined Villalona for a seamless Cama y mesa rendition while Magic Juan and Arturo Sanquintín shared the stage for La lluvia. Luis Valerio delivered a masterful performance of Tatico Henríquez.
The medley Jinetes del merengue ignited the crowd’s enthusiasm. Sergio Vargas, Jandy Ventura and Francisco Cruz each contributed signature songs, creating an electric atmosphere alongside Villalona. Esteemed guests Eudy Cruz, Gabriel Pagán, Pavel Núñez, Techy Fatule and Rubby Pérez added their unique flair.
Fernando Villalona’s return to the Altos de Chavón stage marked a milestone in his career and Dominican music history. With his musical legacy and connection to his audience, “El Mayimbe” demonstrated once again that he remains a cherished favorite of the Dominican people.
