Bayahibe fishing village is famous for it’s beautiful sunsets and on our most recent visit there we enjoyed sunset cocktails at a bar we had never tried before – Barcobar, and had such a good experience, we thought we’d share it with you!
Having just spent the day at Wild Ranch, enjoying a zip-line and wilderness adventure, we decided to stop by Mare Nostrum restaurant in Bayahibe for some good fresh seafood, but as we arrived rather early we decided to do a little exploring before dinner.

Starting from Mare Nostrum we walked up the sandy beach in front of popular bar ‘Capitan Kidd’ (pictured left) with it’s tables, chairs and lounge furniture outside on the sand – perfectly positioned for enjoying the view out to sea, the sunset, as well as Capitan Kidd’s very own pirate ship! The pirate ship (or replica pirate ship) was sporadically doing Las Vegas style re-enactments of a pirate battle with loud bangs, smoke and flashing lights simulating a sea battle! Interesting, but not exactly relaxing……..

Just beyond Capitan Kidd, we stumbled across ‘Barcobar’ another bar-restaurant right on the beach and something about it’s white decor, seashell lights and the blue and white row boats outside called us in to have a look around! We had no intention to stop and have a drink, until I discovered that they served ‘Chinola Mojitos’ (a Mojito with passionfruit juice), which just happens to be my favorite drink…….
We decided to enjoy our Chinola Mojitos (which were every bit as delicious as I had hoped) on the upstairs terrace, where we could enjoy the view of the bay and the setting sun. To our surprise, as well as our Mojitos, we were also served an ‘appetizer platter’, which is something Barcobar offers to all their visitors for FREE (with drinks) – and something we were very pleased about! The platter varies depending on what they have available, but what we ate was delicious and the perfect accompaniment to our cocktails; eggplant balls, foccacia and brushetta.
Sipping our cocktails at the end of a long day watching the most gorgeous sunset really was true bliss!
The final surprise came when we ordered the bill: just RD$600 – for 4 cocktails
I was very impressed – we had not been invited, we were not special guests and yet the food, drinks, service and the prices were excellent. I will definitley be going back – in fact on our next visit to Bayahibe we will be doing a full review of Barcobar, so we can try more of the food and really experience this cute bar.
The Barcobar is on Bayahibe’s main street, next door to Capitan Kidd.
Here are a few more photos of our Barcobar and me, Philip and my parents enjoying the cocktails:
