On Friday, January 19, Casa de Campo and the Tennis Center are set to unveil an exciting array of new facilities, marking a significant milestone in the sports offerings of the venue. Among the most notable additions are four pickleball courts and a hard court tennis court. These expansions not only broaden the options for racket sports enthusiasts but also address the demands and suggestions of the players themselves.

Casa de Campo Tennis Center, renowned for its 11 clay courts, considered “soft,” has decided to diversify its offerings with the inclusion of a hard court. Matías Territoriale, tennis director, explained that the difference in ball speed between these two surfaces implies variations in technique and the physical condition of players. “We cannot say it is easier or harder, but rather different ways of playing the same sport,” Territoriale said.

The construction of the new hard court tennis court was driven by suggestions from players, mostly from the United States, who use the tennis center facilities to train while enjoying their vacations.

Territoriale emphasized that many major tournaments are held on hard courts, and the new addition will allow players to train under conditions similar to these prestigious events. “For example, the US Open has the same surface as this one.” “The idea is for players to prepare for their tournaments here at Casa de Campo,” he added.

In addition to the hard court, Casa de Campo is also embracing the growing popularity of pickleball, a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, paddle, badminton, and table tennis. This sport, widely spread in the United States, has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. According to the 2023 APP Pickleball Participation Report, 14% of adults, or 36.5 million people, played at least once in a year.

Paddle Courts

Territoriale indicated that construction work will soon begin on two new paddle courts, bringing the total available facilities for this sport to four at Casa de Campo.

It is recalled that on November 23, 2022, the first two paddle courts were inaugurated at Casa de Campo, and since then, the reception has been very positive.

Paddle is a family sport that has captured the attention of many families in Casa de Campo. “The holiday season was full of families practicing on the paddle courts,” Territoriale said.

The tennis director is eager to have the two new paddle courts ready to host the first tournament of this modality at Casa de Campo.

In addition to the new courts, two additional bathrooms are included, strategically located near the pickleball and paddle facilities, for the convenience of the players.

Name Change of the Tennis Center

The constant evolution of Casa de Campo as an elite sports destination is evident with the integration of new racket sports, a change that goes beyond mere facility expansion. Starting with this exciting development, the Casa de Campo Tennis Center will transform into the “Racquet Center,” a name that reflects the diversification and inclusion of disciplines such as pickleball and paddle, in addition to the already established tradition of tennis.

This initiative demonstrates the sports center’s commitment not only to excellence in tennis but also to adapting to emerging trends and demands in the world of racket sports.

With the addition of the four pickleball courts and the hard court tennis court, the Racquet Center positions itself as a hub for lovers of a variety of racket sports. The inclusion of pickleball, a rapidly growing sport in the United States, and paddle, known for its family-oriented approach and accessibility, reinforces the center’s vision as a place where all racket sports enthusiasts can find their place.

Upcoming Events

In the upcoming events, Casa de Campo hopes to host the traditional International Tennis Tournament in June, as well as various external tournaments throughout the year. With these additions, the sports center solidifies itself as a leading destination for tennis, pickleball, and paddle enthusiasts, offering world-class facilities and exciting opportunities for practice and competition.
