Altos de Chavón Art Gallery is set to host a captivating new exhibition titled Bateyes y Palacios, open to the public from January 17 to February 17, 2025. The exhibit brings together the works of artists Emmanuel Johnson and Rebeca Marte De La Rosa, who, through their creations, invite viewers to explore the complexities and contrasts of Dominican culture.

The opening will take place on January 17 at 6:30 PM, featuring a reception where guests can enjoy a special selection of wines. The evening will continue with a Meet the Artist session at 7:15 PM, where Emmanuel Johnson and Rebeca Marte De La Rosa will share their inspirations and creative processes, offering a chance to engage with the artists and learn more about their work.

At 7:30 PM, the exhibition will formally begin, and attendees will have the opportunity to view a series of artworks that reflect the diversity and richness of Dominican identity, from life in the bateyes to the grandeur of the palaces. The event will also feature thematic finger foods that complement the visual experience.

The evening will conclude at 8:30 PM, with the gallery closing at 9:00 PM, though the exhibition will remain open to the public throughout the month.

About the Artists:

Emmanuel Johnson, a Pan-African visual artist born in Costa Rica, presents works that blend realism and abstraction, deeply rooted in his Afro-descendant and Indigenous heritage. His art has been featured in private collections across the United States, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Italy.

Rebeca Marte De La Rosa, originally from La Romana, is a graduate of Fine Arts and Illustration from Chavón, La Escuela de Diseño. Her work is characterized by a focus on free and spontaneous expression, with no constraints, as seen in her series 24/7, which explores the contrasts between rural and urban life in the Dominican Republic.

The Bateyes y Palacios exhibition promises to be a unique visual experience that invites reflection on the identity, traditions, and history of the Dominican Republic.
