Photo of the Week: Peckish at Palmilla

This week’s unbelievable photo was sent to us by Talento A Domicilio and was taken in our favorite maritime spot – Palmilla. 

Palmilla is a natural swimming pool about a 30 minute boat ride from the Marina Casa de Campo and is THE place to party on a beautiful sunny day! With it’s crystal clear shallow blue waters, it’s popular with both Casa de Campo villa owners and residents, as well as sailors and tourists – who all enjoy stopping here to cool off in the water with a beer or champagne in hand!

Sadly, since Palmilla has become a popular tourist spot (with more than 20 boats, pictured above) making a stop there everyday, it has become increasingly rare to spot any kind of wildlife there (party animals not included), which is what makes this photo so special. Not only do we see an incredible photo of a pelican in flight (perhaps about to dive for a fish), but we can also see the tourists in the background, totally unaware of this beautiful bird flying by.

If you (like us) enjoying partying at Palmilla, then please spare a thought for the wildlife that live there! Many years ago Palmilla was full with starfish and now there are very few – if you see one, do NOT take it out of the water as that will kill it! Also please be careful with litter, throwing any kind of litter or rubbish into the sea could kill or injure marina life!
