On Friday February 6th a crowd of Casa de Campo villa owners and residents, former and current great latino baseball players enjoyed one of the most glamorous events of the recent Latino Baseball Hall of Fame week of celebrations surrounding the 6th Grand Induction Ceremony, we are talking about the Honrary Chairman’s dinner held at Casa Grande.
With everyone in attendance stylish dressed, relaxed and enjoying the evening, it wasn’t until the arrival of Pedro Martínez that euphoria was unleashed… and as the whisper “Pedro is here” circulated those who had previously been composed clamored around for autographs and to pose for photos with the man who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and also inducted to the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame.
Acting as the host of the gathering in place of Alfy Fanjul, honorary chairman of the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame, was Pepe Fanjul Jr., while also in attendance was Rafael Torres, president of the Casa de Campo Hotel.
Taking part in the celebration was Carlos Beltrán, Omar Moreno, Bert Campaneris, Rafael Avila, Tommy Lasorda, Felipe Alou, Moises Alou, Roberto Kelly, Carlos Delgado, Victor Davalillo, Nomar Garciaparra, Manny Acta, Cookie Octavio Rojas among others. The players were joined by their family and friends, as well as members of the Casa de Campo community, such as Daniel Hernandez, manager of the Casa de Campo hotel, and Philip Silvestri, president of SILGON and INMORTALES magazine – the official publication of the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame.
Another guest of honor was Jeff Idelson, President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museun as well as José Blandón, mayor of Panamá.
Other events Latino Baseball Hall of Fame (Salon de la Fama del Beisbol Latino) celebrated that weekend included the welcome cocktail on the Hotel El Embajador in Santo Domingo, as well as of course the 6th Grand Induction Ceremony celebrated at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater.
