The past year 2023 witnessed an unprecedented event in the Dominican musical scene: the triumphant return of Fernando Villalona to the emblematic stage of Altos de Chavón. This concert, masterfully produced by the president of the company, Big Show Pro, Néstor Caro, has been deservedly nominated by Acroarte in the category of best concert of the year at the prestigious Soberano Awards.
Let’s remember that this memorable concert marked the closure of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the iconic Altos de Chavón amphitheater. Thirty-seven years after his first performance on this stage, the revered artist, affectionately known as “El Niño Mimado,” made his triumphant return on Saturday, August 12, 2023, before an audience that filled every corner of the venue. The performance was more than an event; it was a historic moment that will be etched in the memory of all present and in the history of Dominican music. Read the article here.

For Andrés Pichardo, president of Casa de Campo Resort, the nomination of this concert is a great honor and pride, reflecting the impact and importance of this event in the Dominican music industry.
Casa de Campo® Resort & Villas celebrated in style the 40th anniversary of the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater, where more than 200 shows have been held and more than 500 national and international artists and performers have appeared over the past four decades.

The Altos de Chavón Amphitheater is an open-air theater with a capacity for five thousand people, located within the Casa de Campo complex. It opened its doors on August 20, 1982, with HBO’s special “Concert for the Americas,” featuring the iconic late artist Frank Sinatra.
The Soberano Awards, the pinnacle event of Dominican art and culture, will be celebrated in a spectacular gala on March 12 at the National Theater, co-sponsored by Banco de Reservas and Cervecería Nacional Dominicana. The event’s broadcast on Univision, the most influential Hispanic network in the US market, will ensure that the celebration reaches an international audience.

In addition to Fernando Villalona’s concert, other equally memorable events nominated in this category include Vicente García Sinfónico, Héctor Acosta’s Sentimiento, Pavel Núñez’s Pavel Sinfónico, and the 25th anniversary of Tribu del Sol.
This recognition from Acroarte, the institution that has been awarding the most important prizes in the Dominican Republic since 1985, highlights the relevance and cultural impact of events like Fernando Villalona’s concert. It is a testament to the talent and creativity that flourishes in the Dominican music industry and a celebration of the richness of our culture.
In the words of Wanda Sánchez, president of Acroarte, the Soberano Awards continue to champion diversity, talent, and the transcendence of art and culture in the Dominican Republic. This year, the selection of nominees reflects the variety and scope of our artistic talent, both nationally and internationally, consolidating the awards’ position as an iconic and highly significant event in our country.”
