Fundación Brugal (of Brugal rum) recently celebrated the “Brugal Cree en su Gente” awards, in which the Clínica de Familia in La Romana were given an award in the Health category.
The “Brugal Cree en su Gente” awards, “are given in recognition of the biggest achievements in the Dominican Republic”, said Franklin Báez Brugal, president of the Fundación Brugal, who also emphasised that over the last 22 years of the Fundación Brugal has had the chance to express respect and admiration to so many dominicans that have worked incredibly hard for the community.
Honored above 167 other health institutions, the Clínica de Familia of La Romana was extremely happy and honored to receive the award, which recognised their ground-vreaking work in decreasing the transmission of HIV from mother to child, as well as all the medical care they have provided to the greater La Romana community.
The Clínica de Familia is a comprehensive community health services organization in La Romana, which runs one of the largest HIV clinics in the Dominican Republic, in addition to primary care services, an adolescent reproductive health clinic, and a specialized clinic for sex workers, among other programs.
The Clínica de Familia of La Romana was the only institutión in the east of the Dominican Republic to be honored in the “Brugal Cree en su Gente” awards this year.
