As part of the Bateyes y Palacios exhibition, which opened on January 17 at the Altos de Chavón Art Gallery, several special activities will take place to provide further insight and celebrate the powerful works of artists Rebeca Marte De La Rosa and Emmanuel Jhonson.

Guided Tours by the Artists

Visitors will have the chance to explore the exhibition with the artists themselves, who will share their creative processes and offer their perspectives on Caribbean and Dominican culture. The guided tours are scheduled as follows:

Thursday, February 6 | 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Artist: Rebeca Marte De La Rosa

The artist will lead visitors through her series of 19 works, which reflect the daily life of Dominicans and honor working women, including the series Las Marchantas.

Friday, February 7 | 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Artist: Emmanuel Jhonson

Emmanuel Jhonson will guide attendees through his series of 37 paintings, blending realism and naïve art to capture the stories, traditions, and daily lives of Caribbean people.

Conversation and Closing of the Exhibition

The exhibition will culminate in a conversation taking place on Friday, February 14, from 7 p.m. to 7 p.m., where the artists will discuss their works and creative processes. This is a unique chance to engage directly with the creators and delve into the meaning behind Bateyes y Palacios.

Attendees are invited to enjoy Jazzy Nights at Plaza Chavón after the discussion. From 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., this lively music event offers a relaxed atmosphere to continue the evening’s experience.

Celebrating Caribbean Identity

Bateyes y Palacios is the culmination of years of work by Rebeca Marte De La Rosa and Emmanuel Jhonson. Their work brings the richness of Caribbean culture to life through various mediums, including canvas, acrylics, oils and natural materials like seashells and shark teeth. The exhibition continues to celebrate the vibrant history and identity of the Caribbean.
