Last Saturday the 12th of February was a busy night in Casa de Campo – full of exciting events and activities and an even more exciting celebrity sighting! Alex Rodriquez and Cameron Diaz were spotted at the Salon de la Fama exaltation ceremony at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater, again later at the Marina Casa de Campo and even playing a little golf at the La Romana Country Club on Sunday.
For boat lovers, the evening began at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club at the pre-launch cocktail for the new WIDER Yachts with Tilli Antonelli, which was hosted by ERH Marine (click here for photos) And although everyone was excited about the new boats (which are very nice) the buzz word of the evening was undoubtedly ‘Cameron Diaz’ – who had been spotted at Pepperoni restaurant in the Marina Casa de Campo.
Unfortunately by the time we heard that Cameron was in Pepperoni, she had already left to watch the Salon de la Fama exaltation, where fellow celebrity Alex Rodriquez was recognised for being the youngest player ever to make 600 home runs. Alex Rodriquez received this great recognition among 7 of the greatest baseball players in the Latino world – Edgar Martínez, Dennis Martínez, Manny Sanguillén, Luis Tiant and Ricardo Carty, who were exalted into the Salon de la Fama. The crowd (myself included) very much enjoyed the show and I was particularly excited to spot Cameron Diaz sitting in one of the front rows!
One of the most popular parts of the show however was when A-Rod received his award, here you can watch his acceptance speech:
Even more exciting was the news that Cameron had made a reservation for 10:30pm later that same evening for a table at Cafe Juanita in the Marina Casa de Campo……that news spread rather quickly and by the time the celebrity arrived (fashionably late of course) there was already a large crowd of Casa de Campo locals waiting to see her (but pretending to just be having a nice casual drink.) As Philip and I are super famous and important ourselves (or thanks to our special and wonderful friend Benny) we were invited to join Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriquez for dinner and a few drinks – it doesn’t get much cooler than that! Click here for photos!
All of the photos used in this article were contributed to us by Carlitos Pichardo, a good friend of Alex Rodriguez and proprietor of local burger joint Dom Ham in La Romana – many thanks for the photos Carlitos! Here are a few more photos of Alex Rodriguez and Cameron Diaz at the Salon de La Fama ceremony, as well as a photo of Felipe Alou Jr, whose stage name is Calixto St Pierre, who although not yet a celebrity – is a celebrity in the making, watch this space!
