Following the Toros’ glorious victory over the Las Estrellas last Sunday, La Romana’s Los Toros team were officially announced the winners of the Dominican Baseball League 2010-2011 and on Wednesday the  26th of January, the Toros and the town of La Romana celebrated – in grand style!

The president of the Dominican Republic, President Leonel Fernandez announced Wednesday to be a holiday  for the town of La Romana (or so I have been told) in celebration of the Los Toros victory and so the whole of La Romana town came to a complete standstill as the Toros baseball team and all their screaming fans paraded through the streets and later partied in the Francisco A. Micheli Baseball stadium – home of the Los Toros del Este.

In the midst of all the celebrations, a few Abraham Lincoln School teachers and some volunteers from the Hogar del Niño, managed to make their way back stage of the concert held at the stadium and even managed to talk their way into the VIP area of the party, where they met many of the Los Toros team players as well as Jonny Ventura, the famous merengue legend who was performing with his sons band ‘Los Potros.’

Here Amy Parker, tells us her version of events:

Thousands of people flocked through the streets of La Romana to celebrate Los Toros well-deserved win of the National Championships 2010-2011. The streets were lined with people, who later joined the party at the Stadium. Several artists performed and fireworks lit the sky. I enjoyed the party from backstage, mixing with the players and celebrating in style! A fabulous night had by all, truly a night to remember.

Here you can view a few more photos of the celebrations in the streets of La Romana, in the stadium and back stage at the VIP party! All these photos have been contributed by Amy – thanks Amy!
