Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, honored as one of the “Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World” by GOLF.com, has announced plans to renovate the Teeth of the Dog golf course. The project, led by Jerry Pate Design, will begin in January 2025.
Teeth of the Dog, designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1971, is considered one of the Caribbean’s premier golf destinations. It is known for its seaside layouts, peninsula greens and tees, and distinctive bunkers, including the renowned oceanfront holes dubbed “The Heaven 7,” humorously noted by Dye: “I created 11 holes, and God created seven.”
“We are honored to preserve Pete Dye’s legacy and prepare Teeth of the Dog for future generations of golfers,” said Andrés Pichardo Rosenberg, president of Casa de Campo.
The renovations

Starting January 20, 2025, Jerry Pate and his team will modernize and update the classic 18-hole course, focusing on several cosmetic enhancements. The primary improvement will be the complete re-sodding of the course with Dynasty Paspalum, a grass ideal for coastal courses. Additionally, three inches of sand will be added to the fairways before seeding to improve playability and irrigation.
“Pete was a creative genius who transformed modern golf with his talent and imagination,” says Pate. “Our goal is to enhance Teeth of the Dog and maintain its distinctive character.”
The renovation will also restore the greens to their original sizes, as initially designed by Dye, with a slight modification. All green-side bunkers will be reshaped and expanded to flat-bottomed designs with sharper, more dramatic faces. New concrete paths for golf carts and stone paths around the tees and greens will also be installed. The renovated Teeth of the Dog is scheduled to reopen in November 2025.
“We look forward to elevating Pete’s masterpiece and ensuring Teeth of the Dog continues to be a premier golfing destination,” says Gilles Gagnon, director emeritus of golf and senior golf sales director at Casa de Campo.
In the meantime

During the renovation, golfers can enjoy Dye’s other designs at Casa de Campo: Dye Fore and The Links. The Dye Fore, with its 27 holes spread over three distinct nine-hole courses, offers dramatic cliff-side holes, stunning views of the Caribbean Sea, and a challenging terrain. The Links, known for its wide fairways and complex, undulating greens, is considered one of Dye’s most playable designs.
