cafe de la leche

cafe de la leche

It feels like just yesterday when we were all dressed in flares and bandanas enjoying cocktails at the “Hippie Bingo” Café de la Leche hosted by Adriana Feaugas, but with the next event scheduled for Friday June 1st in less than 2 weeks time – it’s time to save the date!

It is becoming increasingly more popular for the Café de la Leche monthly charitable event to be hosted by a business, rather than by a member of the community at their Casa de Campo villa – so far this year events have been celebrated at Chinois Chinese restaurant in the Marina Casa de Campo as well as onboard the Costa Luminosa cruise ship while it was docked in La Romana and now the upcoming Café de la Leche is being generously hosted by the Casa de Campo Yacht Club! I’m sure we’re in for a real treat!

Another emerging “Café de la Leche trend” is what I will refer to as “add-ons”, meaning that many hostesses are now choosing to do add a little something extra to the celebration (themes, costumes, bazaars etc) – to make it even more fun and to attract even more attendees, meaning we are now collecting even more milk for the Hogar del Niño’s crib room than ever before! Yay!

Café de la Leche at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club
When: Friday June 1st, 5pm – 7pm
Where: Casa de Campo Yacht Club, Marina Casa de Campo
Contribution: dried/powdered milk, cereals or baby formula

So SAVE THE DATE – Friday June 1st for the next Café de la Leche event at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club, with some extra special “add-ons”…..

• Music with DJ Rafael Gonzalvo!

rafael gonzalvo

DJ Rafael Gonzalvo is a 9th grade pupil at the Abraham Lincoln School in La Romana, who having started DJ exactly 1 year ago offered his DJ services to the Café de la Leche because “it’s a good cause and because I’m glad to help in anyway I can.”

DJ Rafael Gonzalvo who in January this year starred as a guest DJ at Café Juanita, will be providing the music throughout the entire Café de la Leche event (and later if we’re in the party mood), but will be keeping it mellow at first “with different genres of electronic music, like lounge music with a little deep beat to make people move a little bit.” Sounds fun!

• An art exhibit presented by Andrea Brenes and Argenis Lebron!

Intertwined within the Café de la Leche event, which is being staged both inside the club itself as well as on the outside terrace will be an art exhibit with the art works of young and upcoming artists; Andrea BrenesArgenis Lebron and Modesto Santiago.

Both big supporters of the Hogar del Niño charity, Andrea is a student at the Abraham Lincoln School and granddaughter of Xiomara Menendez, the founder of the Hogar del Niño, who is already donating her time by decorating and personalizing canvas shoes, whilst Argenis is a graduate of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design, who teaches art classes at the Hogar del Niños new extra-curricular activities center, the “Zona Verde.” Modesto Santiago is also a graduate of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design, where he studied fine arts.

• Food by Limoncello!
Although perhaps not the central attraction, the food buffet at every Café de la Leche is always popular – and this time we have a “menu fresco” (fresh menu) to look forward to which is being prepared by Limoncello pizza and Italian restaurant in the Marina Casa de Campo!

We look forward to seeing you there!

ABOUT the Cafe de la Leche

main

The Cafe de la Leche is a monthly charitable event, a little like a coffee or a tea party held for the ladies of Casa de Campo (although men are occasionally invited) and usually takes place on the first Friday of the month, hosted by a member of the Casa de Campo villa at her Casa de Campo villa or occasionally restaurant/business.

The aim of the Café de la Leche gatherings are to boost the milk supplies of the Hogar del Niño (a daycare and educational facility in La Romana) – which uses the milk to feed more than 200 babies cared for daily in it’s crib room. Everyone is welcome to attend these great events and it’s totally free – you are just requested to bring some dried/powdered milk, cereals or baby formula to contribute.
