Bienvenu Carrefour! Bon appetit Casa de Campo! Last Saturday the 1st of December 2012, the Casa de Campo community celebrated the opening of the new Carrefour in Altos de Chavón – by turning out to a wine and cheese tasting at the new store and taking the opportunity to shop, shop, shop!
In celebration of the opening of their new store – now open daily from 9am to 9pm, Carrefour invited all Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and guests to a wine tasting, in which guests thoroughly enjoyed a fine selection of wines on sale at Carrefour, such as the Medoc Tinto Chateau Gadet Terrefort, RD$659.95 and the Côtes du Rhône Domaine Grand Destre 2011, which at only RD$299.95 was not only delicious, but a real bargain!
The other wines we had the opportunity to enjoy were; El Côtes de Blaye Château Haut Lalande 2011, RD$449.95 and El Chardonay de la Casa Bouchard, RD$279.95, both also excellent wines with even better price tags! I know where I shall be shopping for wine in the future!
Shopping at Carrefour in Altos de Chavón

Whilst it is normal to occasionally see a Casa de Campo guest indulging in a little retail therapy during an event – such as at an art gallery opening or a cocktail at the Jenny Polanco Project, never before have guests embraced shopping with such enthusiasm and excitement as at the opening for the new Carrefour store! Whilst typically the socialising, food and drinks tend to be the primary attractions at such events – there was no doubt that on this occasion Carrefour and all it had to offer was very much the star of the evening!
Thrilled to encounter items that quiet simply cannot be found anywhere else – fresh Salmon, oysters and shrimps, fine French chocolate, cheeses and yogurts, fresh baguettes and croisants and all at prices that actually beat those that can be found in the pueblo (La Romana), everyone was raving about the new store – with one lady, Coco Bailliencourt from France even taking friends on a tour of the store pointing out the “best buys”, the most delicious products and even giving great pairing tips! Also rather popular was the wine cellar – with the finest selection of red and white wines, as well as champagnes.
