From Monday the 9th of May through to Friday the 13th, the Fundacion MIR received a group of dentists from New York, who spent the week treating the teeth of the children of the Fundacion MIR schools.  The mission of the ‘Dental Project’ was to exam as many children as possible from the MIR schools, during the week that the volunteers were here. Arriving at the MIR Esperanza, the boys vocational school, Dr. James Hudson and his team of doctors and dental students, got to work on the children with the worst dental problems, treating both boys as well as girls from the Politecnico Fundacion MIR school. The dentists worked tirelessly from 8 am to 6 pm and with their relentless dedication managed to treat more than 500 students during the week! They performed cleanings, extractions, filled cavities, and even repaired broken or chipped teeth – and all 500 children left with bright, shining, happy smiles!

A Miraculous Change: Before and After!

Fundacion Sonrisas collaborated by sending a mobile dental van with all the equipment that the dentists needed, whilst Mr. Manuel Valentin donated all the materials used for the operations. Doctors Daneyris Santana and Giselle Pillier, both Dominican dentists helped the mission, working alongside Dr. Hudson’s team. The children were also educated on the importance of dental health and brushing your teeth by a representative from Colgate.
The Oral Health Initiative, was a success and the group of dentists are planning another visit soon!
Fundacion MIR is very grateful to all the persons who made this Dental Program possible! Thank you!

Thank You Team Teeth!
