Last Saturday the 19th of November 2011, the annual fundraising dinner for the Orfanato Niños y Niños de Cristo (orphanage in La Romana) was celebrated with an ocean-side cocktail, BBQ dinner, a live auction, a circus show and dancing!
The evening, which was hosted by Deena McKelvey in her stunning Casa de Campo ocean side estate, Casa Alegre (this villa is for sale – click here for photos), began with an enchanting cocktail by the sea at sunset in the villa’s huge gazebo. Guests enjoyed a variety of cocktails including Daquiri’s and even “agua de coco” drank fresh from the coconut.

Follow cocktails, the attendees and supporters of the Orfanato Niños de Cristo were escorted to the dining area, elegantly positioned within Casa Alegre’s enormous tropical garden overlooking the ocean and feasted on a BBQ buffet prepared by local La Romana business, “Eventos y Catering.”
And it was during dinner that the evening’s entertainment started, led my mistresses of ceremonies Hilda Peguero, popular La Romana personality who runs the GuaGua radio show on Amor FM and myself (Rebecca Hughes), editor of Casa de Campo Living, who following a brief speech of thanks, invited guests to enjoy a photo slideshow, showcasing a year of special occasions at the Orfanato, which included: the “Cena Español” fundraising dinner, the children’s participation in the Teatro de la Comunidad last December, Gensis’ volleyball success, the inauguration of their new church donated by David Gober, Pet’s Day, the Circus of Dreams at La Estancia and much more!
Next on the agenda was a wonderful show led by the girls and boys of the Orfanato Niños y Niñas de Cristo, who sang “Heal the World”, whilst holding white balloons and glowing lights, following which they upped the tempo and performed their famous dance routine to “Baby” by Justin Bieber.
Immeadiatley after watching such a talent-filled enchanting performance by the boys and girls, came the perfect moment to hold the charity auction led by Tiberio Avanzini, which thanks to the generosity of all the bidders and the companies and individuals who donated the articles – was a huge success, raising nearly US$5,000!!
But the fun didn’t end there! Following the excitement of the auction, the “Circus of Dreams” took center stage, wowing the audition with sky high acrobatics, fire-eating, juggling and many other breath-taking stunts!
This fun-filled and thrilling event was held to raise money to pay for the completion of a new school being built at the orphanage, the first stage of the school has been completed, but sadly so far the second phase of the school has remained uncompleted, whilst the orphanage raises funds to complete the building process. Following the success of this event and generous donations from Casa de Campo community members, the Orfanato Niños de Cristo school is now even closer to being ready for learning!
Many thanks for your generosity!
