Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, but early detection can make treatment safer and more effective. That’s the message behind Diagnóstica Social’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, which runs throughout October at its Central Romana facility.
Affordable Screenings All Month
The clinic announced that mammograms and sonomammograms will be offered for RD$1,000 during the month of October. For insured patients, there is no additional cost.

Dr. Moisés Williams, a physician at Diagnóstica Social, emphasized the importance of screenings. “When breast cancer is detected early there is much less tissue to remove, and treatment is easier and safer,” he said in a recent video shared by the center.
Mammogram and Sonomammogram Explained
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast tissue, while a sonomammogram adds ultrasound imaging to improve detection. Together, these tests can provide a clearer picture of breast health, especially for women with dense breast tissue.
The exams are available daily throughout October at Batey Principal #99, Central Romana, La Romana. Appointments can be booked via WhatsApp at 829-452-9145 or by calling 809-550-1002 / 809-550-8376.

A Regional Health Concern
According to health data cited in previous campaigns, more than 2,400 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually in the Dominican Republic, with over 1,000 cases detected too late for effective treatment. Regular screenings, especially for women over 40, remain the strongest defense.
Diagnóstica Social’s initiative reflects its ongoing mission to make preventive care accessible. As the center put it in its announcement: “La detección temprana puede salvar vidas” — early detection can save lives.
