From April 2 to April 5, 2025, the 41st Annual Sugar Golf Tournament brought a competitive spirit and a sense of community to Casa de Campo. This year’s edition saw returning players, fresh faces and an all-star lineup of fairway action and festivities. Hosted once again by the Fanjul family, the tournament unfolded with both elegance and energy.
A Warm Welcome by the Water
The tournament kicked off on Wednesday with registration and practice rounds across Casa’s top courses. That evening, the welcome cocktail at Minitas Beach Club, co-hosted by Azimut Yachts, set a laid-back tone.

Luis Fernandez and Tad Ryan, who stepped in to represent Mr. Alfy Fanjul, who is recovering from back surgery, offered words of welcome. At the same time, Federico Caslini of IBI Yachts joined in with a toast to the week ahead. The evening provided guests with a relaxed setting, featuring music, cocktails and camaraderie. The theme? Play fast, have fun, and enjoy the week ahead.
From Calcutta to Clubhouse
Thursday featured more warm-up rounds and time to explore the MIR Sugar Bazaar, supporting Fundación MIR. That night’s Calcutta cocktail and dinner at Casa Grande set the competitive tone heading into the official rounds on Friday.

By Friday morning, it was game time. Men teed off at La Romana Country Club and Marina-New; the ladies took on Dye Fore and Links. Casual lunches and mid-round meetups added flavor, as did the Argentine pizza and grilled meats served during Friday’s cocktail hour hosted by Rolando and Monica Gonzalez-Bunster.
Saturday: Grand Finale and Fashion
Saturday delivered a mix of sport and style. While the men played their final rounds — Group A at La Romana Country Club, Group B at Marina-New — the ladies enjoyed tennis, a runway-style fashion show, and lunch at the club, followed by final rounds in the afternoon at the Links.
Crista Ryan, Mimi Ryan, Lilian Fernandez and long-time friend Jamie Niven presented numerous prizes to the winners of the golf tournament, which included beautiful jewelry from Everett Designs for the women, a custom-made suit by Paolo Pontiggia, and golf gear for the men, as well as trophies.

The weekend closed with a lively awards dinner at La Romana Country Club, complete with dancing, toasts, and stories from the green; It was a fitting close to another successful year.
Looking Ahead
With its mix of friendly competition, philanthropic support, and social charm, the Sugar Golf Tournament continues to be a highlight of Casa de Campo’s calendar. Until next year, here’s to more birdies, fewer bogeys and plenty of Sugar.
