In celebration of World Environment Day, the La Romana Bayahibe Hotels Association (AHRB) and the La Romana Bayahibe Tourism Cluster (CTRB) reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability by hosting the tenth edition of the La Romana Recycling Contest. The event aimed to encourage waste reduction through effective management and environmental best practices.

“This contest aims to instill waste prevention practices among participants. Moreover, we aim to foster a recycling culture and promote responsible waste management, emphasizing the valuable 3Rs concept: reduce, reuse, and recycle,” said Ana García-Sotoca, Executive Director of AHRB.

Held at the Multiplaza La Romana Shopping Center, the event showcased ten teams presenting impressive creations crafted from various materials including plastics, glass, paper, and cardboard. Entries were evaluated based on originality, harmony, presentation, durability, utility, and labeling criteria.

Representatives from the Sunscape Dominicus La Romana Hotel won the top prize, followed by Hotel Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in second place and Hotel Hilton La Romana in third. The judging panel included Roberto Martínez from CTRB, Antonio Martorell from AHRB, Cesarina Aquino from IDARD, Nicole Sánchez from Multiplaza La Romana, and Lorena Hernández from Proactiva.

After the competition, the creations will be donated to local schools to promote the 3Rs culture. Additionally, workshops will be conducted to raise awareness about sustainable practices and individual responsibility in waste management.

AHRB remains committed to the region through ongoing educational campaigns and workshops targeting various segments of society, advocating for sustainable practices and stressing the importance of individual responsibility in waste management.

The contest received sponsorship from the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR), Banco Popular, Asociación Cibao De Ahorros Y Préstamos, Banco Santa Cruz, Banreservas, Imperial Tobacco La Romana, National Car Rental, Seguros Universal, Mapfre Salud ARS, Asociación Romana De Ahorros Y Préstamos, and Multiplaza La Romana.
