In an emotional event that brought together children, parents, and lovers of Dominican culture, illustrator Taina Almodóvar and writer Ileana Montero presented the children’s book “The Legacies of Grandfather Johnny” on Tuesday, April 18th at the Altos de Chavón Archaeological Museum. This book, a tribute to the beloved Johnny Ventura, aims to inspire the younger generation with the story of the Dominican singer’s willpower and resilience.
From 5:00 in the afternoon, a group of children from the Casa de Campo community, along with their parents, gathered at the museum to participate in this significant activity. The presence of the little ones reflected their interest in learning from the teachings that this material had to offer them.
Johnny Ventura’s widow, Mrs. Josefina Ventura, played a prominent role in this project, leading it with enthusiasm and dedication. Her support was essential for this tribute to become a tangible reality.

The genesis of this project dates back to an illustration created by Taina Almodóvar after the passing of the legendary singer. This illustration, shared on social media, captured the attention and affection of many. Motivated by this response, Almodóvar decided to go further and contacted writer Ileana Montero. Together, with the support of the Ventura family, they understood the importance of creating a book that would recount the story and legacy of Johnny Ventura, an icon of Dominican music and culture.

Almodóvar say that the main objective of the project is to ensure that Johnny Ventura’s legacy endures in future generations. Although past generations are familiar with his work, it was vital that today’s children also become acquainted with his legacy of perseverance and passion for music.
The book “The Legacies of Grandfather Johnny” thus becomes an invaluable tool for imparting values of effort, dedication, and overcoming obstacles to Dominican and global children. Each page tells the story of a man who, despite obstacles and adversities, managed to achieve success and leave an indelible mark on the history of music.
The book launch event was also an opportunity for children to have a close encounter with the authors, who dedicated personalized copies to each attendee. This direct interaction with the book’s creators added a special touch to the experience, strengthening the bond between readers and the story they were about to discover.

In the coming days, “The Legacies of Grandfather Johnny” will be available in various bookstores across the country, carrying with it a message of hope, determination, and love for music. Through this book, Taina Almodóvar, Ileana Montero, and the entire team involved in the project hope that children will find in the life and work of Johnny Ventura an example to follow, reminding them that with effort and dedication, any dream is achievable.
