In a jubilant celebration of sport and philanthropy, the 9th Annual British Polo Cup, hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (BritChamDR), took place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the prestigious polo grounds of Casa de Campo in La Romana. The event paid homage to the memory and legacy of Don Alfonso Paniagua.

On the enchanting field of Casa de Campo’s Court Two, Team La Carmela emerged victorious, clinching the championship title with a 13-10 win over their counterparts from La Suiza. Ezequiel “Gallego” Martínez Ferrario distinguished himself as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Proceeds from the event will be directed towards supporting the needs of children through the foundations Hogar del Niño and Save the Children Dominican Republic, focused on enhancing reading and comprehension skills. This educational initiative also collaborates with families and schools to ensure the reintegration of all children into the educational system.
Mrs. Annie Vda. Paniagua performed the ceremonial throw-in, igniting a dynamic match that boasted strong support from various brands endorsing this edition.
Following the match, BritChamDR honored its distinguished members with a special tribute in memory of Don Alfonso Paniagua, who was accepted by his son, Luis Alfonso Paniagua.

La Carmela, the championship team, received accolades from Amauris Vásquez, president of the BritChamDR Council, and was subsequently a symbolic check was presented to Save the Children and Hogar del Niño foundations.
