For the past 24 years, Clínica de Familia La Romana has been working towards the well-being of children and adolescents in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic. Currently, the Clínica de Familia is undertaking a new project with the support of the Children’s Place International Foundation, which began in November 2022. The project aims to provide adolescents between the ages of 13 and 21 with the opportunities and skills, in terms of health and education, to achieve their personal and professional goals. This project encompasses social services, mental health services, education, and legal counseling according to each case’s specific needs and nature.

As part of the overall project development, the youth can access technical and university scholarships. Several young individuals have already received scholarships and are pursuing technical courses. Additionally, the project includes a job placement plan and internships within the Clínica de Familia La Romana and through agreements with other institutions.

Another component of the project is the implementation of an intervention called Project AIM, which focuses on reducing HIV risk behaviors among young individuals. AIM encourages young people to envision a positive future and discuss how current risk behaviors can hinder successful adulthood.

This project is providing many new opportunities for development and growth for the participating youth, thanks to the efforts of the Clínica de Familia team and the support of Children’s Place International.
