10k bayahibe

The 2nd annual 10K Bayahibe Marathon took place last Sunday the 29th of September, and was a great success with the participation of hundreds of domestic and foreign visitors. The event was organized by the La Romana – Bayahibe Tourism Cluster, an organization who is working hard to to develop the La Romana – Bayahibe region into one of the Dominican Republic’s most popular tourist destinations.

Taking part in the marathon were 455 runners, of different nationalities, both professional and amateur runners, who enthusiastically completed the ten kilometer route between the two tourist destinations of La Romana and Bayahibe.

In the male category, first place was won by Pedro Emmanuel Herrera, while the podium was completed by Toribio De La Rosa (in second place) and Jorge Adames (in third place); in the female category, the expert runner Soranyi Rodriguez took gold, while silver was taken home by Jordania Diaz and the bronze went to Jaisa Sánchez.

Cash prizes were of RD$10,000 , RD$14,000 and RD$18,000 and a passage to the United States, by the JETBLUE airline, the winners of the third, second and first place, respectively.

In addition to prizes for the winner, there were also some great raffle prizes! Flights to Spain with AirEuropa and to the U.S. with JetBlue, a voyage to Puerto Rico and numerous weekend breaks at hotels across the Dominican Republic.

Runners of all ages took part, in the categories of 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49 and over 50’s, who completed a route that led from the parking lot of Bayahibe, passing along the beach of the Casa del Mar hotel to the Dominicus road and the hotels of the Dominicus area, before looping back to the start (and finish) line in Bayahibe.

The activity, aimed to promote all the active and healthy activities that tourists to this destination can enjoy, and united many people from all around the Dominican Republic and abroad, making the area the focus of attention throughout the weekend.
