For all you Casa de Campo art lovers out there, we bring you news of a new art exhibit in Santo Domingo – prominent Venezuelan artist, Milton Becerra is currently showing his exhibit “Haiku – La Manera de Construir el Mundo” in Santo Domingo.
This interesting exhibit can be seen at the Lyle O. Reitzel contemporary art gallery on the Gustavo Mejía Ricart street in Santo Domingo.

As one of the most visible Venezuelan artists, Becerra has created art for over three decades. With the exhibition “Haiku – Manera de Construir el Mundo” the artist presents 13 new pieces, including wall installations. The title takes its cue from Japanese haiku poetry, which can also be found in Wayuu literature. The essence of the traditional poem is the juxtaposition of two images or ideas, presented together and connected through a word that relates the two separate elements. Becerra’s art is in itself very similar to haiku poetry as his works possess a similar essence. He creates art full of juxtapositions with elements related by a theme or an idea that he then presents in a way that is conceptually and aesthetically poetic in its own way.
In 1980 he relocates to Paris, where he currently lives and works. His exhibits start in 1970, while he was still a student in La Escuela de Artes Plásticas Cristóbal Rojas in Caracas, graduating in 1972.

In 1973 he was awarded with the first prize at the III National Show of Young Artists. In this same year, he executes his first solo show in Caracas’ Ateneo. In 1976, he presents “Módulos programados”, his first solo show at Caracas’ Museum of Modern Art. His work is currently represented at numerous international public and private collections.
