Casa de Campo opens a “Crafts Market” in the Lago Grill – every Friday!

Every Friday from 6am to 3pm, Casa de Campo is now hosting a “Crafts Market” in the Lago Grill, giving tourists and Casa de Campo villa owners the opportunity to shop for some genuine hand-crafted Dominican souvenirs. 

The group of 6-8 artisans are mostly based in the nearby fishing town of Bayahibe and include the co-op groups; Arte Cuseco and La Pereskia, who create jewellery using local materials – such as seeds, shells and driftwood, these groups also create miniature replicas of Bayahibe’s traditional fishing boats in all shapes, sizes and colors – a craft which is traditional to the area.

Some of these artisans were also involved in the recent project “Tejiendo Futuro” a combined effort between the Altos de Chavón Foundation and international charity “Women Together”, which over 2 weeks hosted 40 local artisans and worked with them to help develop economically viable products to compete in international markets.

We are yet to visit the Crafts Market ourselves – but we have heard from some other villa owners that it’s great and certainly worth visiting!

Casa de Campo’s Lago Grill, most famous for it’s legendary buffet breakfasts is now open every evening – hosting Dominican Nights! On the new Dominican Menu are many popular Dominican delicacies; Sancocho (US$17), goat stew (US$17), Pescado al Coco (US$17) and much more – and on Friday and Saturday evenings there is live Dominican folk music with a Pericao Ripao band.
