Well then you’re ready for the Hogar del Niño annual fundraising weekend – this year celebrating it’s 16th edition on the 15th and 16th of February. With a fun-filled schedule of activities for all the family from Zumba and golf, to a homes and gardens tour and the dinner-dance party there is literally something for everyone to enjoy!
UPDATE: We’ve just heard that this year the dinner will be held at Minitas Beach NOT the La Romana Country Club! AND the Zumba will now be at the beach too!
The Hogar del Niño is a educational and daycare center in La Romana – which cares for more than 1,500 children on a daily basis, but more than that it also offers medical and dental care, special schooling to over 75 hearing impaired and blind children, as well as vocational training for over 200 students, AND they also have 48 young adults currently enrolled on their scholarship program enabling these bright young individuals to continue their education at universities across the Dominican Republic.

Last year, the 15th Hogar del Niño Fundraising Weekend took place on Friday and Saturday the 17th and 18th of February – a wonderful celebration which was “conservation themed” (with some breathtaking decorations) and dedicated to the Hogar del Niño’s “Zona Verde”, an informal education pavilion where the children participate in extracurricular activities such as drama and music.
The Hogar del Niño is a children’s daycare and educational center for over 1500 children, located in La Romana town, just outside of Casa de Campo. Children from as young as just a few weeks old up to 18 years old are cared for and educated daily, from as early as 5:30am and staying as late as 7pm.
The organization also provides special schooling to over 75 hearing impaired and blind children, as well as a vocational school where over 235 students receive classes in different areas like: sewing; industrial preparation, installation and electrical maintenance; plumbing and management of computer office programs.
