UPDATE: (Saturday August 25th, 2012)
The information in this article is no longer correct. Tropical Storm Isaac has now passed by the Dominican Republic and is on it’s way towards Florida.
Here in Casa de Campo, sports facilities, services and restaurants are reopened with the exception of the Teeth of the Dog golf course – which is currently being clear-up as it was damaged by the storm surge.

We thought it was over, but whilst everyone was busy talking about how “Tropical Storm Isaac” was headed for Haiti, Cuba and then Florida – Isaac had other plans. Although the “center” of Tropical Storm Isaac is indeed headed in that direction, the “tail end” of the storm is whipping across the Dominican Republic – with heavy rains and very high winds.

The tail end of Tropical Storm Isaac headed for the Dominican Republic
So although you may well have already noticed that the weather is rather grim right now – the point of this update is really to let you know that this is just the START of the bad weather – because as the “tail end” (picture above) spins around the center, it looks likely that it will cross the Dominican Republic – so stay in-doors and put down plenty of towels for those leaky windows and doors.
The following unpleasant weather conditions are predicted throughout the Dominican Republic (and especially along the Eastern coast) for the next 24 to 48 hours:
• heavy rain
• high winds
• dangerous and strong waves (which we certainly saw evidence of on the Teeth of the Dog, Minitas Beach, the Marina Casa de Campo and at numerous ocean-side private villas today – incredible photos and videos coming soon!)
And in case you need reminding, the results of this nasty weather could include:
• flooding and flash floods (in previous years we have seen the Chavón river burst it’s banks)
• mudslides
• damage to roads, wooden buildings etc
P.S Again I am NOT an expert – I am just doing my best to summarize and make sense of all the hurricane and tropical storm news out there. This morning I said “I don’t think it’s going to get too much worse” – which was clearly wrong – it has gotten much worse already. I do however still maintain that “it’s not going to be too bad” – that said please keep vigilant and keep informed (recommended sources below).
PHOTOS
Today I spent pretty much all day taking photos and videos of the storm surge – at the Teeth of the Dog golf course, Minitas Beach, the Marina Casa de Campo and at numerous ocean-side private villas…I’ll be [ublishing those photos as soon as I can!
