Behind every succesful project, there undoubtedly is a great team of professionals; a fact which is also applied to the team of enthusiastic designers and creators of bespoke furniture of Rústicos & Más, a furniture company that has quickly become one of (if not the most) popular among members of La Romana and Casa de Campo communities – and in this ocassion, Casa de Campo Living digged into the creative process of the furniture you love!
As a company that opened in Novemeber of 2010 and has since then specialized in the making of original rustic furniture, as well as providing advice on interior designing for its many clients, Rústicos & Más is integrated by a talented team of professionals who day after day work with much enthusiasm to offer excellent services and products, like the gorgeous furniture lines “Don Julio” launched during the Feria Dueños 2011 and “Jenny” which was recently launched during the opening cocktail of their new show room in the Marina Casa de Campo – and so in the interest of getting to know more about the people behind the beautiful scenes composed of these creations, we had the opportunity to talk to Ignacio Colón Martínez, one of the talented designers at Rústicos & Más, and creator of lines “Don Julio” and “Jenny”:
@cdcliving: How did you become a furniture designer? What inspires you?
At a young age, I used to work at different workshops and furniture companies – a time in which I met Mr. Arturo, specialized in furniture sculpting and carving, as well as being a great ilustrator and designer of magnificent pieces. He inspired me to take this carreer, starting with drastic decisions such as quitting at the company I used to work for, to begin a new project with him – where I started gaining experience and a time I took to study furniture designing in depth.
@cdcliving: So how do you get into Rústicos & Más?
With a different concept, we started to develop this project in conjuction with Mr. Julio Enríquez Ramos, who was always aware of, not only creating different and impressive designs, but also of the great responsability and respect that the clients deserve. Among various ideas and opinions, we started developing our new project, known today as Rústicos & Más.
@cdcliving: Do you have a particular style when designing furniture?
I really don’t have a style since I always design based on the needs and preferences of our clients. We are comitted to a personalized market and the trends of these times. After doing some research in the market we can clearly see what our target wants and needs and based on these results, we then design and launch the different furniture lines.
@cdcliving: How many furniture lines have you created for Rústicos & Más?
The truth is we have already elaborated 30 furniture lines in less than two years, taking into account that each of them have different models..But we have officially launched two exclusive lines for the Casa de Campo market after becoming clients of Silgon [the company that brings you Casa de Campo Living!!] from which we receive marketing advice.

@cdcliving: Tell us more about you. What did you do before working for Rústicos & Más?
I consider myself a creative person, with great expectations from the many opportunities given in life, as well as the many challenges. I believe a lot in the importance of union in family and the preservation of moral values like love, peace, comprehension and compassion. I have worked for both national and international companies, as well as participating in many important competitions and fairs in the Dominican Republic, receving awards in first place.
The great demand for Rústicos & Más furniture from the many Casa de Campo residents and villa owners, has not only allowed them to open a new show room in Coconut Mall at the Marina Casa de Campo – (click here to see the photos), but it has also allowed the wonderful team to spot out their clients preferences; for instance, their favourite type of furniture, which according to Ignacio, these are; bars, chairs, living room furniture and doors – nicely combined with beautiful fabrics!

@cdcliving: What is the biggest challenge?
Our greatest challenge is to create modern but different lines, without losing the rustic concept.
@cdcliving: Do you like designing for all types of villas and other locations or do you have a favorite type?
I like and enjoy designing furniture placed outside. This is because I can play around with nature, but we are trained to design all types of furniture for villas and other types of projects.

We are working on a new project, again based on a fresh and modern line without losing that rustic touch..!
