Last Wednesday the 2nd of February the Casa de Campo community was joined by a troupe of dancing dragons at Chinois in the Marina Casa de Campo to celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year!
The annual celebration held at the Chinese restaurant Chinois in the Marina Casa de Campo was a great success with Chinois full of Casa de Campo residents, visitors and tourists, who all turned out to see the dance of the dragon, enjoy Chinese food and welcome the year of the Rabbit in true Chinese style!
Whilst waiting for the show to begin guests feasted on delicious sushi, sweet and sour dishes, fried rice and Chinois’ other popular dishes and then a little later than expected (I guess the dragons were on Dominican time) the show started with the banging of drums and in marched the dragons! One long red winding dragon danced and swayed between the dining tables at Chinois and to the applause of the crowd, 2 smaller more elaborately dressed dragons bounded their way around the restaurant, posing for photos and rearing their giant sequined dragon heads in dance and celebration! As the show came to a close the two shorter, fatter dragons walked among the tables and offered guests sweets and a special lucky pouch from their mouths – the small red envelopes each contained 1 peso (you can’t buy much with that, but receiving money on Chinese New Year, in Chinese tradition brings good luck! Woohoo!)
Chinois is a privately run restaurant in the Marina Casa de Campo, which is in partnership with the Casa de Campo Hotel – meaning dinner at Chinois is included on the ‘all-inclusive’ meal plan for guests of the Casa de Campo resort.
I would just like to give a special mention to Erika Villain for her amazing costume – look at the picture above! WOW!
