random palmilla trip What is Caribbean Living? For me it’s waking up in the morning and looking outside to see the ocean, beautiful blue skies and palm trees AND awesome trips to Palmilla! In my opinion the absolute BEST thing about living in Casa de Campo is the opportunity to go out on a boat to Palmilla, Isla Catalina, or if you can stomach it – fishing. Boating or yachting can be enjoyed even if you don’t actually own a boat – you can rent or if you live here you will surely have friends who will be more than happy to invite you along (just be sure to take a case of champagne and everyone’ll be happy!) On this particular trip to Palmilla we were invited by our friends the Jorge’s, who were celebrating the visit of some friends from the US and a birthday – needless to say we were only too happy to share in their celebration. A great afternoon was had by all; champagne, frolicking in the ocean, snacks and absolutely no need to worry about who’s seeing you or having your photo taken for the Listin Diario or a magazine – opps unless I’m about! Thanks guys! Here are a few of my photos from the afternoon: What IS Palmilla? I often (wrongly) assume that everyone must know what/where Palmilla is, but I have been asked several times by my aficionados what is is, so….. Palmilla is a natural swimming pool or sandbank, maybe 300m from the shoreline. The water can be waist-deep or deeper depending on where you ‘park’ your boat. Palmilla has been a popular ‘party’ spot for many, many years and on long-weekends and New Years Eve attracts hundreds of party boats, complete with DJ’s and plenty of champagne swigging! Palmilla is also home to starfish – which are now becoming a rare sight, if you see one do NOT take it out of the water, as this will kill it. To get to Palmilla you come out of the Marina Casa de Camp, turn left and drive along the coastline for about 30mins until you find other boats ‘parked.’ Sorry I have no nautical directions!
